Although all forms of aesthetic surgery require careful consideration, rhinoplasty (or a nose job) probably requires the most thought. The nose is such a dominant facial feature that changing its shape can genuinely alter your appearance quite dramatically.
Dirty Dancing Star unrecognisable after nose job
Jennifer Grey, the star of Dirty Dancing struggled to find work again after she had a nose job. Whilst her nose was slightly reduced and was arguably more flattering nobody recognised her any more resulting in a lack of movie roles.
It’s not just the look of the finished article that you need to think about. Rhinoplasty is surgery and will usually require an overnight stay. Given this you want to make sure you’re comfortable with the location. It can be stressful enough undergoing an operation without travelling great distances too.
Expect some recovery time
Like any surgical procedure you should also expect some recovery time, usually a few weeks. Inevitably there will be some swelling and bruising and you may be advised to avoid wearing spectacles for a while. This is another consideration if you are planning to return to work quickly. The good news is that, in many cases there will be no visible scarring as often the incision can be made inside the nostril, although not always.
Don’t expect absolute perfection
Another factor that is worth thinking about is the possibility of the procedure not producing absolutely perfect results. As it involves removing bone and cartilage there may be a slight irregularity that appears after the swelling subsides as a result of the bone and cartilage healing. Whilst this may not be an issue you for you in the context of a general enhancement of the nose if you do want to attain perfection a second procedure may be required.
The most important consideration in any rhinoplasty is finding the right surgeon. Make sure it’s someone with a solid reputation and readily available testimonials. Meet up with them first before making any kind of commitment. A good surgeon will listen carefully to what you want to achieve and manage your expectations accordingly.
